Drama Classes

A typical lesson may include a warm-up game aimed at encouraging students to mix and work together, a focus exercise teaching students to maintain concentration, an activity exploring one of the elements of drama and performance, an opportunity to create a short performance in small groups with a given stimulus and a chance to both perform in front of the class and participate as a part of an appreciative audience.

Older groups extend on these exercises as they develop performance techniques and also critique each others work. This helps students learn to understand what makes a quality performance in an environment built on trust and mutual respect.

At Broadway Kids we recognise the sense of empowerment a student feels when they are given the opportunity to perform. Students are given the opportunity to perform every week during class and in our end of semester productions.

Students will feel energetic, enthusiastic and more positive. Our classes are fun!

Drama classes are a fun and exciting way to learn acting skills. The joy of learning drama will boost a child’s enthusiasm and energy levels, helping them to feel more positive about themselves and the world around them.

Students will feel empowered and more confident. The world will be their stage!

We help children to unleash their creativity. Students will have loads of fun in the classes and all the while they’ll be growing more empowered and resilient.

The students conversation skills, listening skills and concentration skills will be enhanced.

Communication includes listening, speaking, concentrating and interpreting body language. Children will learn and practice these skills during every acting lesson.

Our Classes promote Social skills and Social and Emotional Learning.

Each class is its own small, supportive community. In today’s environment social skills are often neglected or underdeveloped. Our approach and purpose is to provide the conditions which stimulate Social and Emotional Learning in our students, to better prepare them for the challenges of School and Life in general. Our programs stimulate the development of emotional intelligence.

Students will develop qualities for leadership.

Most leaders in society exhibit confidence, self-belief and the ability to project their voice so their views are heard. Respect for others, an understanding of self- worth and a resilient nature are necessary qualities in today’s world. Our use of a structured drama environment promotes the development of these qualities in all students. Developing these qualities will not only help a child during their school years, but throughout their entire life.

Students will learn to think quickly and laterally.

Within the security of a structured and fun environment, we encourage children to develop spontaneity through the use of improvisations and other activities.

Our environment provides a platform for success in the performing arts.

Students won’t just have fun each week; they’ll be building a foundation in the performing arts, using drama skills as a context for development of the individual. We do not seek to create ‘Actors’ alone but provide sufficient learning to enable students to take performance or acting further, if that is their chosen path.

Classes are inclusive of all physical abilities/ disabilities.

A student of any physical ability and emotional stability can enrol in the classes.

Every student gets to perform in the final Show Production.

No special clothing is required.

From time to time a small “prop” may be used but these are mostly found in the home.

Our end of year presentations do not require great costuming. All organisation and making of costumes and stage props arranged by the teacher.

Attendance costs are kept to a minimum.  We want everyone to be surprised and delighted by children's growth and confidence, not ambushed by hidden fees.
